THE STORY
Rustic + Relaxed
DESIGNER: ALLISON WEATHERLY
PHOTOGRAPHER: MANDY MCGREGOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Our client desired a vibrant, warm and sophisticated home. Previously in a rut with their dated and hand me down furniture, our client wanted their home to speak to who they are and their unique personalities. The home was tired and felt dark and heavy. We were tasked to refurnish the main living spaces and help minimize sound travel from the main level to the basement and vice versa.
Our goal was to create a stylish, yet uniquely fun aesthetic. We utilized bold colors and patterns to showcase our clients personality. We also wanted to use materials that spoke to the clients familial connections to the railroad and industrial roots.
While this was a relatively newly built home, we were able to add small details such as wallpaper, paint, and paneled walls throughout the design.
CHALLENGES + SOLUTIONS:
One of the biggest challenges we faced was controlling the sound traveling from space to space. The open concept floor plan and hard surfaces was causing sound to travel between upstairs and downstairs. To solve this problem, we added a significant amount of soft surfaces, including rugs, draperies, and more upholstered items throughout.
